The Beau Sancy is a diamond of supreme historical significance. Weighing in at 34.98-carats, this double-rose cut stone, mined in Golconda India, is worth anywhere from $2,000,000 – $4,000,000 USD. It is said that the stone first belonged to Nicolas de Harlay, seigneur de Sancy. While how we came into possession of this stone remains a mystery, the Pale Yellow gem made its way into the hands of this historic figure and still bears his name today.

1654 – The Beau Sancy found its way back to France and became a part of the French Crown Jewels, among the Hope and the Regent. Unfortunately, during the French Revolution, the Royal Treasury was raided, and the stones were among that which was taken.

1828 – The stone eventually resurfaced when it was purchased by Prince Demidoff of San Donato. It remained in the family collection until 1865 when it was sold to an Indian prince.

1829 – Prince Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy sold the stone to an unknown buyer, which is when the stone would vanish from the public eye once again.

1867 – Sancy Diamond was put on display at the Paris Exposition, but sold by an unknown individual for a massive $1 million franc price tag.

1906 – William Waldorf Astor purchased the stone as a wedding gift for Lady Astor, who wore it proudly on her tiara. The stone remained in the hands of the Astor family for 72 years until being sold in 1978 for $1 million.

Currently – The Beau Sancy can be found resting in the Apollo Gallery in the Louvre in Paris.
